We are The Strongs

We are Jono and Kelly Strong, Christian missionaries currently volunteering under the umbrella of The Kenyan Children's Project in the town of Kakamega, Western Kenya, sent out by our Church 'Catch The Fire' - London. We have recently become parents to a beautiful baby boy, Hunter Amos Strong, we are excited to have him on this mission with us.

On the 9th June 2012 we were married in the city of Norwich, it was such a precious day. We had a beautiful home, we loved our city and we had some incredible friends around us. As we entered our first winter together as a married couple, it was obvious to us, as we strived for God to be at the centre of our marriage, we were about to have our lives turned upside down.

Kelly was a qualified registered nurse, working on a very busy renal ward at our local hospital. She loved her job and she worked so hard to get the position.

Jono was an engineer and worked for a company in his home town of Fakenham. The company made pea harvesters! Jono specialised in hydraulics, helping to make machinery weighing a huge 27 tonnes.

After much thought and prayer, it was decided. We resigned and left our jobs in May 2013 and although we felt excited for what was in store, we also felt a little apprehensive.

Since September 2013, we have been working alongside the non-governmental organisation, called The Kenyan Children's Project (Charity Commission number: 1110102). We volunteer within the children's home in Kakamega, as well as doing a variety of outreach and hosting programmes and events within the surrounding communities. 

We have been at the forefront of the children's home, raising up a team of employees,  empowering them to work efficiently and closely with the local children's department to locate; take hope to, and assist extremely vulnerable children.

Throughout this year, we have been stretched beyond comprehension. We are continually learning to give everything to God and through His strength alone we have overcome many giants.

We very much feel that the work we are called to do within the charity has only just begun, and after much prayer and thought, we feel Kakamega will be our home for the foreseeable future.  

Our Mission...

As a young couple who have stepped out to serve in the unknown, we are seeking to put God’s love into action, to lead people worldwide into a growing relationship with Jesus Christ and to work with communities that are riddled with hunger and poverty.  Our aim is to serve individuals and families in the poorest communities in the world. We hope to honour and empower widows as well as orphans and we want to see the marginalised have a voice by caring for the truly vulnerable.

Our Support Network...

As we do not have an income or a salary, we are in a position where we have to completely rely on God to provide all that we need. This has been an incredible challenge over the past year, but watching our Heavenly Father provide has allowed us to be in absolute awe of our creator.

Our aim is to be independently supported missionaries. However, The Kenyan Children's Project presently contribute towards our living expenses. We hope to become self sufficient so that the charity is able to finance other projects in the future.

We are so very thankful to all those who have partnered with us throughout our journey in Africa so far, for all those who have generously sowed into the work we are doing and for believing in us.  It has truly been overwelming and faith growing watching the way that God has provided. Witnessing Him whispering into peoples' ears, and seeing how people have responded to our mission to see His Kingdom extended has been truly incredible.
